I am a Vancouver based architect, artist, urbanist and environmental sustainability advocate.  I paint, sketch and am working on a children’s adventure book for fun.  I have had numerous successful exhibitions of my paintings in the Pacific Northwest (Vancouver/Seattle).  I have also taught Fencing and was once ranked in the top three Epee Fencers in Canada. The pen however, is mightier than the sword so I have set my blade aside for now.  (But don’t mess with me if there’s an umbrella nearby).

Professionally I have had a checkered history but usually managed to do what I call ‘failing upward’, I have been a designer-facilitator in multiple eco-charrettes throughout western Canada for over a decade.  I have served as an Adjunct Professor and guest critic at the UBC School of Architecture. I  currently teach architecture and environment at Arts Umbrella and created 2020 Vision, a sustainable urban design workshop for over 70 youth from greater Vancouver schools.  For me design is both work and play so I regularly enter architectural design competitions to explore new ideas.  In addition I have been a key player in themed attraction designs all over the world including Italy, Japan, USA, China and the Middle East.

My work as a facilities director in advanced education, and as a project manager on green buildings for the BC Government allowed me to work closely with some of our best local, regional and international design teams.  This breadth and diversity of experience gives me a perspective on architecture, urbanism and green building that is thoroughly grounded, three dimensional and well informed.  For me design is always challenging fun, hard work and above all very satisfying.  Architecture/Design is not just a job – it’s a way of seeing and enjoying the world.  I’ve found it can be a hard mistress but nothing worth doing is easy.

My architecture web site is under construction and will be up and running soon.

I look forward to our dialogue on many issues.
